What should I look for in tires?

Firstly, you should look for tires that match your driving needs. Although most tires are designed to meet all types of weather conditions and roads, a tire professional will be able to help you select some tire features that may help to maximize your overall driving experience.

How do I know which brand to go with?

What are speed ratings? And why is this important?

A speed rating is the designed speed capability for your vehicle and tires. This essentially lets you know the fastest speed that a tire can handle before it lacks its highest performance capabilities. Although your tire may have a high speed rating, that does not mean that you can safely drive your vehicle at the maximum speed for long periods, especially under poor weather conditions. This is important to know because it contributes to your tires life expectancy. If you are aware of your speed rating and manage your speed according to the tires rating, you will receive a longer life from your tires.


Where can I find my tire speed rating? 

The vehicle’s manual is the first place to check. You may also find the speed rating in the driver’s side door, the glove box door as well as your gas tank hatch. Although it may vary per car manufacturer, it is located in either your manual or within your vehicle.


How long should a new set of tires last me? 

If you drive somewhere in between the average of 12,000-15,000 miles a year, your tires should last you anywhere from three to four years. The rubber compound will not be worn through at this point, but the treads on the tire will have worn off entirely by this point, meaning that you will have poor traction.


If I have a new set of tires that are over 5 to ten years old are they still good?

-Although your tires may be used very little over time, there is no technical expiration date for any tire. Even if you have a car that is only driven on the weekends or special occasions; the rubber in the tires begin to deteriorate over time which could mean that the tires are no longer safe. Many tire experts feel that any tires over eight years old should be disregarded, regardless of how little they were used.


Can I purchase tires and install them on my own?

-Although it is possible for you to get tires and install them on your own, it is highly recommended that you do not install your tires on your own. Improperly installed tires can cause premature wear as well as a flat or blow out when you least expect it. This is something that we never want you to have to experience. That is why we ask that you come to us before attempting to do it on your own.


How do I know when it is time to replace my old tires?

You may notice that your tires need to be replaced by your driving experience alone. If you noticed that your vehicle control, braking and overall stability is no longer the same; it may be time to check into new tires.

Your vehicle may even alert you letting you know it is time for new tires, depending on the year of your vehicle.

Most automobiles have a built-in tire tread indicator around the area of your tires.

This indicator will let you know when there is approximately 2/32” left on the tread itself.

Another thing to pay attention to is how long you have had your tires, even if they appear to be fine, it is advised that you check them out or stop by to have a tire technician assess the life left on your tires.
