The Tire Shoppe Ferndale, MI General Tire History

The General Tire and Rubber Company was founded in the year of 1915. The General Tire and Rubber Company was founded in the city of Akron, which is located in the state of Ohio, in the United States of America. The General Tire and Rubber Company was founded in order to manufacturer tires for motor vehicles. The company of General Tire and Rubber is an American based manufacturer company. The General Tire and Rubber Company was founded by a man that is named William F. O’Neil. As the company progressed year by year, the General Tire and Rubber Company was known to be a manufacturer of parts other than tires for motor vehicles. The General Tire and Rubber Company became a manufacturer for tires, rocketry, entertainment and news, rubber compounds, real estate, and even aeronautics.

Although the General Tire and Rubber Company was successful, the industry found that its best interest at heart was to sell the company. In the year of 1987, The General Tire and Rubber Company sold its rubber and tire division to a German based company. Germany’s very own Continental Company bought out the General Tire and Rubber Company in the year of 1987. The Genera, Tire and Rubber Company is now recognized as the Continental Tire North America, Incorporated. The General Tire and Rubber Company did decide to keep the rocketry industry in tact. The rocketry industry of the General Tire and Rubber Company foregone multiple name changes and expansions until it was founded by its parent company. The rocketry industry for the General Tire and Rubber Company parent company is known as the Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Company.
Rewind back a few years when the company was first founded, the General Tire and Rubber Company was once extremely successful in manufacturing tire and rubber parts.

The founder of The General Tire and Rubber Company, William F. O’Neil started out in Kansas City when he obtained a franchise of Firestone. William F. O’Neil became unpleasant with the thought of how the Firestone Company started to operate under franchises, and he took a drastic and bold approach from there on out. William F. O’Neil decided it was in his best interest to compete against the Firestone Company rather than work for the company. William F. O’Neil went into a partnership with his very own father and the both of them decided to form The General Tire in the year of 1915. William F. O’Neil and his father started to employ former managers from the Firestone Company.

When William F. O’Neil and his father first started out in the company of General Tire, the main focus for the both of them was to focus on repair materials, like how they previously did at the Firestone Company. But, fast forward to one year, and William F. O’Neil and his father started to expand into manufacturing. The manufacturing included tire manufacturing and other high-end products for the tire industry. A few of the products that The General Tire company partook in were Dual 90 tires, General Jumbo, Low-Pressure General Balloon Jumbo, and other replacements that were considered premium for Ford Model T trucks.

In the year of 1918, the General Tire and Rubber Company started to work on something called the General Jumbo’s. When the General Tire and Rubber Company decided to enter the business of tires, over three hundred companies were already involved in the tire industry. William F. O’Neil decided to think outside of the box and to introduce something brand new to the tire market and industry. William F. O’Neil produced and introduced a premium tire replacement. No one in the tire industry had done this before. The General Jumbo was a pneumatic tire made for trucks. The General Jumbo tire cost more than the other tires in the competition. On the contrary, the General Jumbo tires were worth more than any other tire in the tire industry.
